Directions from Dublin Airport

Route A: Via the coast road

  1. Take the M1 south, towards Dublin City, for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km).
  2. Take the exit for the M50 Southbound.
  3. Follow the M50 through the toll bridge.
  4. Stay on the M50, which turns into the M11 and then into the N11. It’s all the same road and you don’t need to turn off at any stage.
  5. After about 20 miles (32 km), take the turn-off for Rathnew.
  6. In Rathnew, turn right at the roundabout and stay on the R752 to Glenealy and Rathdrum.
  7. About a mile past Rathdrum, turn right onto the R753 towards Ballinaclash and Aughrim.
  8. Just over the the bridge in Aughrim, turn right onto the R747 towards Tinahely.
  9. After about 9 miles (14 km), keep right onto the R747 towards Tinahely.
  10. At the top of Tinahely street, keep left onto the R749 towards Shillelagh.
  11. In Shillelagh, turn right up the Main Street, and at the top there’s a shop and petrol station.
  12. Keep left here, up the steep hill.
  13. Follow this road for 1.1 miles (1.7 km), keeping right at the Y junction on the way, until the road levels off and the cottages are on your right.

Route B: Through the countryside

  1. Take the M1 south, towards Dublin City for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km).
  2. Take the exit for the M50 Southbound.
  3. Follow the M50 through the toll bridge.
  4. Exit the M50 at junction 9 (the N7 to Portlaoise/Cork/Limerick).
  5. The road then changes into the M7 after approximately 20 miles (30 km).
  6. After around 6 miles (10 km), continue to the M7 / M9 junction and branch off onto the M9.
  7. Leave the M9 at the Castledermot/Carlow/Tullow exit and *immediately* take the first exit from the roundabout. As you enter Castledermot, take a sharp right turn towards Tullow onto the R418.
  8. You will reach Tullow in 9 miles (14 km).
  9. Go straight through the first roundabout before turning left, crossing the bridge, and continue up the main street.
  10. At the church, turn right onto the R725 towards Shillelagh. You will reach Shillelagh after around 10 miles (16 km).
  11. In Shillelagh, turn right at the petrol station/shop, up the steep hill. You should pass the church on your left hand side.
  12. Follow this road for 1.1 miles (1.7 km), keeping right at the Y junction on the way, until the road levels off and the cottages are on your right.
